The Saga of Neptune

Yes this title may be misleading. I am not writing of the mythological figure who ruled the oceans of ancient Rome, rather the washer & dryer that have ruled my being since I first laid eyes on them four years ago.

Thus when the old washer died I became the proud owner of the Neptunes. Yet, nothing is ever simple in my life. Simple would just be down right boring. And one can never say my life is boring.

After making the purchase at Home Depot, also know as the place my entire paycheck goes, I waited the excruciating seven days for them to be delivered to the store. (In Oregon-NO SALES TAX)

They arrived Thursday, 12/1/05.

We picked them up on 12/2/05.

We (meaning Kurt & his helper Victor) installed them on Saturday.

Why was installing a washer & dryer such an ordeal?

Let me begin with the logistics. We live in a house built in 1930. We live in Vancouver, WA.

Kurt & Victor had to drive the duck mobile (a 1962 Ford pick-up painted green & yellow) to pick up W&D.

Kurt had to re-do the plumbing in order to install W&D.

While redoing plumbing & installing new pipes, he hit dry rot on the support beam. The very large beam holding up our entire house.

Hmmm... another project.

Kurt has to rewire the electrical conductors to ensure I will not burn up the house and W&D can handle the voltage load. (Or something like that)

Kurt & Victor bring washer down, almost decapitating Victor.

Then the dryer. Victors head remains intact.

Finally at 4:00 PM, nine days after I bought the Neptunes, they are installed.

I am a washing fool.

Thank you Kurt & Victor.
