Ever had one of those days?
My weekend began Friday, the 30th. I had a wonderfully long weekend. Kurt started his on Saturday and due to the picket fence project worked all day Saturday and all day Sunday. Monday he insisted would be a day of R & R. Considering how hard he has been working I completely concurred.
My mistake. But 20/20 hindsight is just that.
We slept in late Monday morning and didn't get on the road to exploring until well after 12:00. Our first stop was breakfast at the Peachtree. A yummy restaurant a notch above Shari's. We had decided to bring Molly and Rudy since they are the most travel savvy of the four.
After devouring breakfast, we headed North on I-5. We took the Kalama exit and headed up into some windy hills admiring the homes and dreaming about owning our own five acres. We came upon a non-developed road which lead onto this amazing plot of land overlooking the Columbian river and the valley below. We decided to drive onto the land let the dogs out to run wild and free and explore the beautiful area. We hiked up to the little hill and shared our dreams of where we would build our retirement home, the animals we would have and of course all the vegetation we would plant. It was a beautiful dream.
After dreaming for awhile the effects of breakfast began to make their presence know so we decided we better head out. Just as we entered onto the gravel road we heard a most unpleasant sound.... hsssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss.
Yes, we had sprung an air leak. Mind you not just one tire but TWO tires. Front and back. We were screwed.
We pulled over and Thank God Kurt had remembered his new cell phone. We called Les Schwab. They recommended a tow truck. We called Carl's Towing. "The men you want to know when you need a tow." An hour or so later Monty was lifted on top of the tow truck bed along with Molly & Rudy and we headed for Longview. We paid the $143.00 dollars for the tow and waited for the tire people to replace our tires.
Meanwhile we walked the dogs.
Around five o'clock they finished replacing the tires and we reloaded the dogs.
I looked at Kurt smiled and said, "What would you like to do now?"
"Let’s head North."
"OK." I replied. "But first drive over to that trash can so I can throw away this trash and these plastic bottles."
Kurt backed up and BAM!!!!!
Yes we had hit a telephone pole. Monty's bumper was/is all dicked up. At this point I requested, "Can we just go home?"
Kurt looked at me, looked out the window and just mumbled..."Yea. I think we better."
Moral of the story...I should not have let Kurt relax.
