Sam & The Racoon

This is the story of Sammy & The Raccoon.

Sam has two brothers, Riley and Rudy. Riley & Rudy like to sleep and pretty much nothing disturbs them during the long night. Sam on the other hand wakes up periodically to "go on patrol". This entails Sam going out into the living room, down stairs to Victor's room and of course outside to the backyard; every once in awhile, Riley will join him. Usually if he thinks he is going to score a goody from Victor.

Friday night, Sam as usual, got up to do his patrolling. He really is quite good at it. I should mention Sam also has three step-siblings. (Toby, Nicky, & Citrus)
He tolerates his step-siblings as they tolerate him. He tends to want to give them tongue lashing which of course they do not appreciate. But I digress.

Sam began his patrol like any other night, around 3:00 AM. I heard him stroll around the living room, then bound down the stairs and back up again and out the doggy door. Then all of a sudden Sam let out this rapid series of barks. Not the normal barks, Such as "Hey neighbors...what's up" or "Hey... they are stealing our garbage" No this was an actual SCARY bark. I turn to my husband, shaking him out of his sleep.

"Honey, Honey, KURT!! Get UP SAM IS REALLY BARKING! GO SEE!!"

What I possible think my husband is going to do in this situation, in only his jammies, is beyond my thought process at this point.

Yet my brave husband staggers out of bed to investigate along with Riley. I stay in bed. Then Riley runs back and jumps onto the bed with me. he is obviously a bit shaken. I wait patiently in the warm covers. Kurt returns & reports, "It was the Raccoon again. Mr. raccoon like the dog food we leave out for the step-siblings, a.k.a. Toby, Nicky, & Citrus.

Well, last night Mr. Raccoon decided he was hungry again and damn but that dog food is good. So once again, Sam & Mr. Raccoon had a "meeting". And once again, I prodded Kurt awake with,

"HONEY, WAKE UP, GO SEE!!!"

And once again, Kurt goes and sees. This time I followed. And sure enough, there was Mr. Raccoon completely put out by Sam's insistence he stop eating OUR dog food and find another restaurant to dine at. Of course my husband completely agreed with Sam. Oh and Rudy & Riley feeling much braver because Mom was there, also ventured out to give their opinion. It was a family affair, minus the cats & Victor who all just holed up in their respective areas.

Needless to say the dog food, left out for the cats, will have to be put away at night. This, of course, will cause angst. And in turn, will prompt the cats to revolt and cause sleep loss. (Only me though) They never blame Kurt, just me.

And so ends the tale of Sammy & The Raccoon.

At least for now

That was funny! This isn't the first time this story has been told to me though. They have had issues with the raccoon before. Poor Kelly, just goes to figure that they have to punish you for it!
