A Perspective

I found this e-mail quite moving, so I thought I would share.

God Bless all my friends & family.

A little something to put things in perspective...

After a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park.

The forest rangers began their trek up a mountain to assess the inferno's damage.

One ranger found a bird literally petrified in ashes,

perched statuesquely on the ground at the base of a tree.

Somewhat sickened by the eerie sight, he knocked over the bird with a stick.

When he gently struck it, three tiny chicks scurried from under their dead mother's wings.

The loving mother, keenly aware of impending disaster, had carried her offspring to the base of the
tree and had gathered them under her wings, instinctively knowing that the toxic smoke would rise.

She could have flown to safety but had refused to abandon her babies.

Then the blaze had arrived and the heat had scorched her small body.

The mother had remained steadfast.

She had been willing to die, so those under the cover of her wings would live.

"He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge." (Psalm 91:4)

Being loved this much should make a difference in your life.

Remember the One who loves you, and then be different because of it.

My instructions were to send this to people that I wanted God to bless and I picked you.

Please pass this on to people you want to be blessed.

Please read on.

To realize the value of a sister (yes, Karen I DO value you. Nad I thank God you are in my life)

Ask someone who doesn't have one.

To realize the value of ten years:

ask a newly divorced couple

To realize the value of four years: or five

Ask a graduate.

To realize the value of one year:

Ask a student who has failed a final exam.

To realize the value of one month:

Ask a mother who has given birth to a premature baby.

To realize the value of one week:

Ask an editor of a weekly newspaper.

To realize the value of one hour:

Ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.

To realize the value of one minute:

Ask a person who has missed the train, bus or plane.

To realize the value of one-second:

Ask a person who has survived an accident.

To realize the value of one millisecond:

Ask the person who has won a silver medal in the Olympics.

Time waits for no one. Treasure every moment you have. You

will treasure it even more when you can share it with someone special.

To realize the value of a friend:

Lose one. Put things in perspective

May your life always be happy and full of blessings.

My Priest, Fr. Paul

Most Sundays I attend mass. Usually the 11:00 mass. Yesterday was no exception. Kurt did not attend with me because he has some illness. My friend Joanna did go with me. So I was not alone. Not that I really would be. I have made lots of friends in the church and feel quite comfortable by myself.

I started attending St. James about three years ago. I wanted to get back to my faith. I had attended a few other Catholic masses at other churches but hadn't really connected. It just wasn't right. But then a new priest was sent to St. James right around the time I started going with my husband in tow.

Something was very special with Fr. Paul. He got life, real life not the confined life of a priest who goes into the vocation at 18. He was not ordained a priest until he was 45 years old. Prior to that, he had lived quite a rowdy life. He understands temptation. He understands the desires of sin and how easy it is to fall prey to them. He didn't judge, he offered real life solutions and could REALLY relate. He offers history and background lessons in his homilies, he helps his congregation grow spiritually as well as intellectually. He is a wonderful spiritual leader. I rely on Fr. Paul’s spiritual guidance and wisdom. He is a wonderful leader.

But on Sunday he delivered some very devastating news. He was being called back to his Monastery. Being a Benedictine Priest he has taken a vow of obedience. Though I am pretty sure all orders take that vow. He will be replaced by a German priest.

Fr. Paul has done SO much for our parish. It has grown by at least 40% since he has come. He makes children feel welcome. He always has a kind word and remembers his parishioners names. He makes you feel a part of the Catholic Community.

I want to believe this is not some Bull Shit Catholic politics. But I am having a hard time believing this. We just elected a new Pope, a German, and now we all of a sudden are getting a new priest. Fr. Paul six month ago, stated he had been instilled as our pastor for the next SEVEN years.
Well
Seven years is NOT up.

I DO NOT WANT TO LOSE MY PRIEST!!
